Customer Concern
A pharmaceutical customer was using a single-stage water ejector vacuum system
for their distillation process. The existing system was not able to achieve the required
higher vacuum level, and the customer wanted to improve vacuum performance for
faster and more efficient process operation.
However, replacing the complete vacuum system involved a high capital investment.
The customer was looking for a low-cost solution using the existing system instead
of changing the entire vacuum arrangement.
Problem Observed
Vovac Engineers studied the existing water ejector vacuum system and the process
requirement. The main challenge was to improve vacuum performance without
disturbing the complete installed setup.
The customer needed:
● Higher vacuum level
● Faster distillation process
● Minimum modification in the existing system
● Lower capital investment
● Protection of new equipment from water backflow from the ejector side
Vovac Engineers’ Solution
To achieve the required vacuum level without replacing the complete system, Vovac
Engineers incorporated a vacuum booster in line with the existing water ejector
system.
A suitable NRV arrangement was also provided to prevent water backflow from the
ejector side into the booster. This helped protect the booster and ensured safe, reliable
operation of the modified vacuum system.
The solution included:
● Inline vacuum booster integration with the existing water ejector
● Proper NRV arrangement to prevent water ingress into the booster
● Retention of the existing water ejector system
● Low-capex system modification instead of complete replacement
● Improved vacuum performance for faster distillation
Result Achieved
After incorporating the vacuum booster in line with the existing water ejector system, the
customer was able to achieve a vacuum level of 750–755 mmHg.
The improved vacuum helped the customer complete the distillation process faster,
reducing process time and improving operating efficiency. By avoiding complete system
replacement, the customer also saved significant capital cost while improving overall
system performance.
Customer Benefit
● Achieved vacuum level of 750–755 mmHg
● Faster distillation process
● Existing water ejector system was retained
● Lower capital investment compared to complete system replacement
● Reduced process time
● Improved power and operating cost savings
● Booster protected from water backflow through proper NRV arrangement
